Heavy rolling beats in a relaxed atmosphere – when it comes to this, you will be hard put to teach George Evelyn, the man behind Nightmares on Wax, any new tricks. Together with Kevin Harper, he founded this project around 1990, with the goal of creating a new form of electronic music beyond the then rising Rave, House and Techno scene. The signature features of Nightmares On Wax are obvious: rhythms brilliant in their simplicity, beats inspired by Blues, and a mix of relaxed Dub, hallucinogenic Hip-Hop and Balearic melodies. And there is a further factor in George’s formula for his unique style: a glowing warmth, typical for NoW, infusing all his music, a warmth hardly anybody can escape. He works with a large number of different musicians: a series of percussionists, classically trained keyboardists, guitarists and so on. In all this, his music is constantly subject to working processes and further development, for Nightmares On Wax is mainly concerned with lifting the sounds of Soul, Reggae and Hip-Hop to a completely new level.
