Wolfgang Haffner
Drummer & Curator

From Nuremberg to the world - Wolfgang Haffner has been playing with the crème de la crème of the jazz scene for almost 40 years. He is a musical all-round talent who has become an integral part of the international music scene. But he is also one of the most sought-after accompanists for international music greats in pop, rock and electronic music, which has led to collaborations with Hildegard Knef, Al Jarreau, Die Fantastischen Vier and many more. As a result, he has always been indifferent to categorisation: "One time they say you're a jazz drummer, then they say you're a pop drummer - why? You can do anything, it just depends on how, and that's also my approach." The multi-award-winning musician has done very well with this approach so far: He has recorded hundreds of studio albums and toured the world several times with around 3,500 concerts in 100 countries. In 2014, he was also honoured with the "Großer Kulturpreis der Stadt Nürnberg".
For the sixth edition of Stars im Luitpoldhain, Wolfgang Haffner has once again brought special people to his side: “As artistic director of Stars im Luitpoldhain, I am extremely excited to be able to put together a musically highly sophisticated and varied programme for each new edition.”
